I don't think they're worth teaching to my family or to new players, but I also enjoy using them when I don't have to explain the rules. I like the objectives in it more, and I prefer the ruins cards to the heroes/monsters with special powers of the Heroes expansion. Also, some edicts, such as Stoneside Forest, give you reputation stars for connecting certain terrain together.I think the attraction of drawing your own map and filling in privately but sharing it publicly is an attractive feature. Furthermore, if players fill in all four of the squares adjacent to a Mountain space, they can also fill in a gold coin. This allows you to use earned coins to purchase one-time bonuses that the available skills provide – maybe you get to draw an additional 1*1 square, maybe you draw a 2*2 instead of the shape on the card, or maybe you get to draw the same shape twice. This matters as each card that is drawn from the deck has a value of zero, one or two, which tells you how many more cards the round may last.
